Appendix Supported File Formats and Data Notes

This appendix explains AIClue’s support scope for file records, content search, built-in preview, and local data storage. The support scope differs by capability: a file that can appear in the file list may not necessarily support content reading or built-in preview.

A.1 File Record Scope

After you add a directory, AIClue scans regular files in the directory and records information such as file name, path, size, time, and file type.

These files may not enter results, or may be skipped:

• Files or directories covered by scan exclusion rules
• Files inside the app’s own directory
• Temporary downloads, temporary cache, or system cache files
• Files that cannot be read, are damaged, or are restricted by system permissions
• Files occupied by another program and temporarily unreadable

If a file can enter the file list, it can usually be found or filtered by file name, path, directory, and file type. Whether it can be searched by content depends on whether the file supports content reading.

A.2 File Type Classification

AIClue binds file type classifications based on extensions. Default classifications include:

File type classification can be adjusted on the File Types page in Settings. After extension bindings are changed, newly scanned files use the new rules. If recorded files do not change, rescan the related directories.

A.3 File Types That Support Content Search

Content search means AIClue can try to read file content and use readable text for search.

Current common supported types include:

The following situations may cause content reading to fail or be incomplete:

• The file is too large and exceeds the current version’s reading limit
• The file is damaged, encrypted, or password-protected
• The file format does not match its extension
• The file content is mainly images, scanned pages, or binary data
• The file is occupied by another program and cannot currently be read

When content reading fails, the file may still appear in the file list, but content search will not match its text.

For English and mixed Chinese-English content, AIClue supports searches with Chinese or English keywords. Uppercase and lowercase English letters do not affect matching, and results closer to a longer English phrase generally appear earlier. Actual results still depend on whether the file type supports content reading and whether the file has been scanned successfully.

A.4 File Types That Support Built-in Preview

Built-in preview means the file can be opened directly in the AIClue preview area. Current common support includes:

Some files may prompt you to open them with the system default app, for example:

• avi, wmv, rmvb
• heic, tif, tiff
• psd, ai, cdr, sketch
• Older Office documents, such as doc, xls, ppt, and wps

Preview support is also affected by system capabilities, file encoding, whether the file is damaged, audio/video encoding, and other factors. If preview is unavailable, use Open File to open the file with the system default app.

Markdown preview restricts remote images, restricted local image paths, and unsafe links to protect local content. Confirm the prompt before opening an external link.

A.5 Relationship Between Search Data and Source Files

AIClue saves local data used for search and filtering, but it does not move source files into the app.

Common data includes:

This data allows AIClue to complete search, filtering, preview, duplicate detection, and workspace management on your computer.

A.6 Behavior Logging Data

If behavior logging is enabled in Settings, AIClue may save some usage behavior on this computer to improve recent files, Workbench cards, or related feature effects.

Behavior logging level can be adjusted in Settings > Privacy Settings:

• Off: Do not record behavior
• Low: Record file clicks inside the app
• Medium: Record drag-and-drop target app names
• High: Record external window titles

If behavior logging is enabled, use the app blacklist to exclude apps you do not want recorded.

A.7 Network-Related Data

AIClue file scanning, content reading, and regular search are completed on your computer.

These features may require a network connection:

• Account login, registration, and access synchronization
• Checking or installing software updates
• Online download channels or services that may be added later

File content is not automatically uploaded because you add a directory or run a local search. Network requests related to accounts or updates are only used to complete the corresponding feature.

A.8 Clearing and Uninstalling

In Settings > Privacy Settings > Data Management, you can clear some local data:

These operations do not actively delete source files on disk. Uninstalling the app also does not delete source files that you originally stored in each directory. If you no longer need AIClue’s saved folders, search history, and settings, clear all data in Data Management before uninstalling the app.
